What makes Homage special?
We treat our honey like a vintner treats wine. Each harvest is unique and we appreciate the environmental conditions that year and harvest season offers.
Honey does not spoil so long as it is packaged and stored correctly, so we are able enjoy the bounty from seasons past, while quantities last! Each harvest has a unique set of environmental factors that can impact floral sources and contribute to distinct flavour characteristics from one harvest to the next.
Where can you find Homage Honey?
We do honey drop-offs in the Ottawa area, see the products section below for more information. We offer bulk discounts for our honey lovers out there, check out our case pricing.
We'll also be attending some farmers markets and exploring getting some honey in local stores in Ottawa - stay tuned!
If you are outside of the Ottawa area, send us a note through the contact form and we'll see what we can do!
Our Hive Management Practices
Tending bees is unlike caring for any other type of livestock. Our actions have impacts to neighbouring beekeeping operations and the natural environment around us. Through mentoring with more experienced beekeepers, ongoing learning, and trial and error, Homage has a few guiding principles that we think are important to share.
We use organic treatments to manage varroa destructor mites (the most significant threat to bee health). We also ensure that we don't overload the eco-system around our beeyards with too many hives, outcompeting native pollinators.
A Focus on Canadian Bred Bees
The Canadian beekeeping industry has a huge reliance on imported bees, which carries significant environmental and biosecurity risks. The pandemic has further shown the supply chain challenges that can arise when the industry relies so heavily on imported bees.
From the beginning, Homage focused on getting stock with proven hygienic behaviour and that were adapted to the Canadian climate. Since buying those initial nucleus hives, Homage as overwintered bees and bred our own queens.

Thanks for your support!
Beekeeping has become a passion project of mine, and I really appreciate all the support I've received from folks excitedly awaiting the next harvest to buy honey, from the property owners who place their trust in me to be a good steward of the bee hives placed on their land, and from people who have shown an interest and want to learn more about bees. It's something that I really enjoy teaching people about and happy to connect with anyone who's interested in learning more about bees, beekeeping, honey, etc. A special shout out also goes to Ron St. Louis of Capital Bees for his mentorship in my beekeeping journey thus far. I hope to pay it forward!
